PROJECT ABSTRACT

BACTERIAL RESISTANCE TO ANTIBIOTICS IS A MAJOR FACTOR IN RESURGENCE OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES WHICH REQUIRES THE DISCOVERY OF NEW DRUGS. IN THIS PROPOSAL WE DESCRIBE THE USE OF MOLECULES IDENTIFIED AS COMPONENTS OR EFFECTORS IN BACTERIAL PATHOGENICITY AS TARGETS FOR ANTIBACTERIAL COMPOUNDS. WE WILL DEVELOP SCREENING PROCEDURES WHICH WILL ALLOW US TO IDENTIFY MOLECULES WHICH INHIBIT TYPE IV SECRETION SYSTEMS USING THE MOLECULES FROM THE DRUG DISCOVERY PROGRAM OF OUR INDUSTRIAL PARTNER. AFTER VALIDATION OF THE INHIBITORS IDENTIFIED IN IN VITRO AND IN VIVO MODELS, NEW ANTI INFECTIVE MOLECULES AND STRATEGIES WILL BE PROPOSED.
